Symposium Programs

As part of Welcome Week, first-year students are invited to attend a symposium. Current students, faculty and staff memberswill be on hand to assist you and to answer your questions about NC State’s academic success programs and campus opportunties.

Schedule Outline

Each Symposium is a part of the Welcome Week calendar of events and allows  students full participation without missing any other welcome activities. Symposiums are interactive student sessions which include meals and run for approximately 4 hrs. on both days. Symposiums are located in Witherspoon Student Center.  Student Interactions include: Academic Success Student Testimonies,  College Life in Raleigh, NC, Who’s Who at NC State, Money Matters, Cultural Expressions, How to be “You”, Understanding Self, Others, and Differences, Shared Experiences.

 

Symposium Summaries

African American Symposium

The African American Symposium aims to help foster a sense of community for incoming NC State students (and their parents) by providing them with information about campus resources, a support network and information on African-American cultural heritage. This innovative program dates back three decades at NC State, and continues to help African-American students and others better prepare for the start of their collegiate careers.

Hispanic/Latino American Symposium

Throughout their involvement in the Hispanic/Latino American Symposium, students gain valuable insight into campus life from the perspective of Hispanic/Latino American students, faculty, staff. You will have the opportunity to enhance your knowledge of self, develop transitional strategies for academic success and begin building your personal network of support.

Native American Symposium

The Native American Symposium is a transitional welcome experience. Its purpose is to foster a sense of community for incoming first-year students and to provide them with information about campus support, personnel, coping strategies and Native American heritage and contributions as a basis for helping ensure their academic, social and emotional success at NC State.
