How to put together a box
1. Purchase a Plastic Shoebox
This will allow the recipient to keep his/her items stored in a durable container. These can be found at your local Family Dollar/Dollar Tree, Kerr Drugs, Big Lots, Target, WalMart and similar locations.
2. Each box must include essentials
A scarf, gloves, hat, chapstick, hand sanitizer, toothbrush and toothpaste. DO NOT include anything edible.
3. Recommended Additional Items
The Recommended Items list is not exhaustive. You may fill the shoebox with alternative, yet
appropriate items. You may choose to create a box for a particular age group or gender. All items must be new/unused.
- Any Age/Gender
- Elementary School Girls
- Elementary School Boys
- Middle/High School Girls
- Middle/High School Boys
- Adult Women
- Adult Men
- Other Ideas
4. Do not Gift Wrap
Gift wrap produces unnecessary waste. You are, however, encouraged to decorate the shoebox. For example, you might decide to adorn the shoebox with colorful stickers, glitter or ribbon.
5. Drop Off
Drop off your shoebox in the African American Cultural Center Art Gallery located on the second floor of Witherspoon Student Center by Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. Please download the link below and attach a tag to your box, and a Thank You heart with your name to display at the Cultural Center (if you would like). If you have extras from your printed sheet, share with friends, or bring them to the Center to be used by others.
We thank you for your kind donation. Every shoebox warms the heart of its recipient during the cold holiday season. Your service to the community will not go unrecognized. Be on the lookout for your or your organization’s name on our website.
