Sisterhood Dinner Speaker Announced; Nominations Open for 2014 Equity Awards

The Council on the Status of Women is pleased to open registration for the 2014 Sisterhood Dinner, to be held on Monday, February 24, 2014, Talley Student Union Ballroom. There will be a wine reception and silent auction to benefit the NC State Women's Center at 5:15PM, followed by dinner at 6:30PM.

The 2014 theme is Champions of Change: Past, Present, Future. The keynote speaker is Anita Brown-Graham, director of the Emerging Issues Institute and a White House Champions of Change honoree. We will also showcase work by the NC State Women's Center, including an informational table during the reception, a short video during the ceremony, and the opportunity to donate to the Women's Center through a Silent Auction.

Recipients of the Equity Awards for Women will be announced at the Sisterhood Dinner. Nominations are now being accepted. For the nomination form, the nomination critieria, and a listing of past winners, pease see the Council on the Status of Women website.

Please note that the Sisterhood Dinner is scheduled to be held in the Talley Student Union Ballroom. In case of construction delay, it will be held at the University Club, which has a maximum capacity of 300. Please register online as soon as possible to reserve your seats. Registration for the dinner is $285 for a table of eight (8) or $35 for an individual.
Items Sought for Silent Auction to Support Women's Initiatives
It's spring cleaning time! Do you have nice stuff just sitting around? Are you looking for a "special home" for that holiday gift that wasn't quite right? Please consider donating new or gently used items to the Women's Center by February 7, 2014 to be auctioned at the Sisterhood Dinner. All proceeds support education, advocacy, and leadership development through the NC State Women's Center. Please contact Otis McGresham or the Women's Center at 919-515-2012 for more information. We can pick your items up from your campus office! Smaller items can be packaged with other items in a basket. Thanks for your consideration.
"Build A Wall Project" for Eating Disorders Awareness Week
In February, the NC State Women's Center will acknowledge Eating Disorders Awareness Week through a new "Build A Wall Project." The "Build A Wall Project" focuses on countering the negative, unrealistic messages about body image that are propagated in the media. It involves creating a montage of popular images from advertising and then covering those images over with bricks that contain body-positive messages. This can be done as a display in your area (It would make a great bulletin board idea for RA's), or as a program that includes viewing either Dreamworlds 3 or Killing Us Softly 4 with discussion facilitated by Women's Center staff or Movement peer educators. The Women's Center is offering both options to any campus unit/group throughout the month of February. Whether you would like to participate by hosting a display or program, you can fill out the request form.  We will send you any needed materials in advance, including instructions. If you would like to participate by hosting a program, we will schedule a Women's Center staff member or Movement peer to meet with your group. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Jenn Scott at 919-515-2012.
