The Tunnel of Oppression Needs YOU!

The planning process is underway for the 2016 Tunnel of Oppression, an annual interactive program that examines issues of race, religion, sexual orientation, ability, nationality, gender identity and sexual violence. Participants are guided through a series of scenes designed to create awareness about contemporary examples of oppression and to help them think critically about both the nature and impact of such oppression. At the end of the tour, there is a brief facilitated discussion which helps participants process what they've seen and heard. The entire experience lasts approximately 30 minutes per group.

How YOU Can Help!

We are currently recruiting both actors and tour guides to help with this year's Tunnel of Oppression, which will be held on Tuesday, March 15 and Wednesday, March 16, 2016 with tours happening in shifts from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 4:00-9:00 p.m. No prior acting experience is required! Students can sign up online. Contact Renee Wells if you have questions.

Call for Black History Month Programs and Events

Multicultural Student Affairs is excited to prepare the tenth annual campus-wide calendar for Black History Month! All NC State University colleges, departments, offices, and student organizations are invited to submit Black History Month program dates and times for publication on the calendar. Each year over the last ten years, NC State has presented more than 25 events during this heritage month.

Do you have an event that highlights African American or African history in a manner that is educational, motivational and/or celebratory? Submit the title, date and time of your program and any other relevant information via the Google form  by Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Contact Latosha Williams with questions.

Spring Religious Holidays with Work Restrictions

Several religions prohibit working on certain holidays. To aid faculty and staff with scheduling events and activities, a short list of some holidays on which students, staff or faculty may not be able to work or attend class is linked below. Part of NC State's regulation on classroom attendance and holidays states:

3.1.3 Students will be allowed a minimum of two excused absences per academic year for religious observances as verified by the Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA) (300 Clark Hall, 919-515-2963). For more information about a variety of religious observances, visit the Diversity Calendar.
Please try to avoid conflicts in scheduling major meetings, exams and other obligations, and work with students, faculty and staff to accommodate these observances. See also the Faculty Diversity website for more information.
