Chris found out that reality doesn't always match expectations, but fortunately, thanks to efforts nationwide and here at NC State, veterans entering the workforce have a more promising future. The GLBT Center will be hosting Transgender Awareness Week from November 16-20, 2015. This program will include a series of events that increase understanding about transgender identities and issues, shed light on the need for transgender-specific services, and start a dialogue about the role of our cultural values in perpetuating anti-transgender attitudes.

O'Licia Parker-Smith is serving in her second year as a communications intern in the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity. O'Licia has been instrumental in building OIED's Twitter presence, more than doubling the number of followers. She also writes for the Digest, provides event and project support and a much-needed student perspective on things.

The application window for the 2016 Building Future Faculty (BFF) program will close on Monday, November 9, 2015. Asian/Asian American Community Network Meet & Greet and Asian Fall Festival Potluck Lunch

On Monday, November 9, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. in the Talley 3rd floor lounge outside room 3210, there will be a Meet & Greet for Asian and Asian American staff and faculty to meet with students and hear about the various student organizations' plans for the year.

The Asian Fall Festival potluck lunch for staff, faculty and students will be held on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in Student Health Center 2301. Celebrate the fall festival that is part of your native culture, including bringing a ​native food item to share.

Allies for Students with Disabilities Brings Ed Summers to Speak about 'Born-Accessible Digital Materials'

On Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. in Witherspoon 201, Ed Summers, Software Accessibility Specialist, SAS Institute will speak about
creating born-accessible digital materials and his work with the STEM
career showcase connecting students with disabilities with professional

November is International Education Month at NC State

November 16-20, 2015 is “International Education Week,” an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. NC State's Office of International Affairs celebrates the whole month of November with a range of events and programs across campus that are all free and open to the public (unless otherwise noted).

The theme this year is “International Education is for Everyone” and is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. The goal is to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States.

Drop-In Virtual Conference to Promote Study Abroad for Underrepresented Students

NC State's Study Abroad Office will host a conference provided by Diversity Abroad, an organization that promotes study abroad to underrepresented students. Drop in on November 19, 2015 in Talley 4140 for one or more of the 30-minute sessions listed below.

The sessions will feature study abroad alumni and professionals of diverse backgrounds who will share their experiences getting to and through study abroad, and its impact on their lives and careers upon return to the U.S. Guest speakers from the study abroad field will also help students maneuver through the study abroad process and answer questions specific to diversity and identity abroad.

Help an International Student by Hosting on Thanksgiving

Many Global Training Initiative (GTI) international students have no plans during the Thanksgiving weekend. The university is closed, and on-campus housing cannot be accessed. We are hoping to be able to offer a number of international students plans for the Thanksgiving holiday by setting up home-stays with American students.

Please fill out the online form if you are willing and able to share your American Thanksgiving holiday with a visiting international student this year. Hosts should be able to provide a ride for all guests.
