A Glimpse of the Civil Rights Alternative Service Break Trip

Trabazz Bruce, a graduating senior in Design Studies and intern in the Office Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED), visually shares his experience traveling on an alternative service break trip earlier this year with the following short video. During his internship in OIED, Trabazz completed numerous design projects, including taking hundreds of photographs at OIED programs and events and producing numerous short videos.

College Women Lead Conference at NC State on February 13

Registration is now open for ‪College Women Lead: The Phenomenal Woman's Conference. This campus women's conference focuses on the unique experiences of women of color who are passionate about social justice. You will learn how to navigate challenges and barriers, how to lead and motivate others and how to capitalize on your strengths, assets and gifts. You will leave the conference with a blueprint for a "Purpose Project" that you create.

This full-day conference on February 13, 2016 includes breakfast, an opening session, workshops, lunch and more. Speakers will include social justice, intersectional, college relevant and interactive presenters. Register online at www.collegewomenlead.com. This event is co-sponsored by the NC State Women's Center.

The conference is seeking both faculty and corporate sponsorships at this time.

2016 Sisterhood Dinner and Speakers Announced

The 35th Sisterhood Dinner, sponsored by the Council on the Status of Women, is scheduled for Monday, February 29, 2016, reception at 5:15 p.m. followed by dinner in the Talley Student Union Ballroom.

This year’s Sisterhood Dinner theme is LEAP, in recognition of the leap year date, with LEAP standing for Lead, Empower, Act, Prevail. The program will feature a panel of women leaders, each of whom embodies the LEAP theme, and one of the words in particular: Susan Nutter ("Lead"), vice provost and director, University Libraries; Gayle Lanier ("Empower"), SVP and chief customer officer, Duke Energy, NC State Engineering alumna and former NC State trustee; Maggie Kane ("Act"), executive director, A Place at the Table, and recent NC State alumna; and Mindy Sopher ("Prevail"), academic advisor, Exploratory Studies, and lecturer in Communication. Mindy will also serve as the panel facilitator.

The program will also include the annual Equity for Women Awards, a performance by an NC State student group and the Women’s Center’s silent auction to benefit student programs, offered during the reception. Registration for the dinner will be available January 6, 2016. Additional support for the Sisterhood Dinner is requested in the form of nominations for the Equity for Women Awards, donations to the silent auction and beer and wine for the reception. To donate to the silent auction, contact Kimberly Zugay in the Women’s Center. Contact Julieta Sherk for reception donations.
