Building Future Faculty Program Accepts 35

Program Brings Distinguished Graduate Students to Campus
The NC State University Building Future Faculty (BFF) Program is a 2+ day, all-expenses-paid workshop for doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars who are interested in pursuing academic careers, who are committed to promoting diversity in higher education and who are one to two years away from beginning a job search. The program aims to increase representation of diverse U.S. graduate students and postdoctoral scholars joining the professoriate.

During the workshop, which is held each spring at NC State University, participants attend sessions describing life as a faculty member at a research-extensive university, expectations of new faculty and resources available to faculty for help with research and teaching. Each participant is matched with an academic department whose interests closely match their own.

This year, the program received over 250 applications. The 35 participants selected represent disciplines from 8 NC State colleges. This year's participants will be on campus Wednesday, March 18 - Saturday, March 21, 2015.

Notably, two alumni of the Building Future Faculty program joined the NC State faculty in summer 2014. The BFF Alumni Directory shows where previous BFF participants are now.

We encourage department faculty to become actively involved with the 2015 BFF program and to use it to full advantage to broaden and strengthen relationships with your network of diverse up-and-coming scholars.

For more information about the program, please see the website or contact Dr. Marcia Gumpertz, assistant vice provost for faculty diversity.
