Counseling Center Launches "Commitment to Multiculturalism" Website, "Dear Student" Letter Series

The NC State Counseling Center has launched a new web initiative, "Commitment to Multiculturalsm." Included are resources provided by the Counseling Center as a follow-up to the Student Government Racial Climate Town Hall held in January, a statement of support and resources in response to the Beirut and Paris attacks last fall, and the first piece in a new series titled "Dear Student: Valuing Cultural Expression."

The Counseling Center has developed this area of their website to affirm its "commitment to our diverse student body and to the provision of culturally competent services. It will seek to illuminate events, initiatives and issues that relate to these core values of 'diversity, inclusion and respect' while striving to increase feelings of safety and validation in our campus environment." We encourage both students and staff to check it out!

The Tunnel of Oppression is an annual interactive program that examines issues of race, religion, sexual orientation, ability, nationality, gender identity and sexual violence. Participants are guided through a series of scenes designed to create awareness about contemporary examples of oppression and to help them think critically about both the nature and impact of such oppression. At the end of the tour, there is a brief facilitated discussion that helps participants process what they've seen and heard.

The event will be held in the Coastal Ballroom, Talley Student Union on March 15-16, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 4:00-8:00 p.m.

Call for Proposals: Leaders Under Construction

The Student Leadership Training Committee at NC State hopes to continue to engage new and developing student leaders.
