Veterinary Medicine Excels with Inclusion

Dr. Allen Cannedy is director of diversity and inclusion in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Cannedy is a 2017 recipient of the Iverson Bell Award for "outstanding leadership and contributions in promoting opportunities for underrepresented minorities in veterinary medical education” by the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC).

New NC State Regulation Requires All Students to Provide Travel Information

The Study Abroad Office recently launched a new International Travel Gateway to collect student travel information on University-affiliated activities. All students traveling on non-credit activities abroad will now be required to submit their itinerary and purchase international travel insurance to ensure that NC State can provide timely emergency response and other support services. The International Travel Gateway is a result of the newly issued NC State Reg 02.55.01 that designates the Study Abroad Office as responsible for tracking all University-affiliated student international travel beginning with summer 2017 departures.

Office of International Affairs to Hold Global Expo on April 18

The Global Engagement Exposition will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Mountains Ballroom, Talley Student Union to celebrate achievements in international education at NC State. The event features an awards ceremony, poster session, networking and lunch. Nominees and 2017 recipients of the Outstanding Global Engagement Award and Jackson Rigney International Service Award will be recognized at this event.

Next GLBT Faculty and Staff Network Social to be Held on April 20

Part of the mission of the GLBT Center is to provide ongoing support for GLBT faculty and staff on campus. To fulfill that mission, the GLBT Center coordinates the GLBT Faculty and Staff Network in order to provide an opportunity for GLBT faculty and staff to connect and form community, to supply informal and formal feedback about campus climate, to support and mentor GLBT students and to connect with prospective GLBT faculty and staff members. The Network holds monthly business meetings and hosts monthly socials. The next GLBT Faculty and Staff Network Social will be on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Players Retreat. Current and prospective Network members are welcome to attend. Partners and spouses are also welcome. RSVP to Renee Wells.

NEW DATE: International Festival Rescheduled for April 21

The International Festival, sponsored by Student Involvement, Student Government, Multicultural Student Affairs and the Office of International Services, has been rescheduled for Friday, April 21, 2017 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. on Stafford Commons. The event will promote cultural competency for students, faculty and staff and bring new perspectives and traditions from around the world. Social Justice Leadership Retreat – Applications Due April 21

The Social Justice Leadership Retreat (SJLR) is a weekend program, all costs included, that will give students the skills and strategies to create social change. At SJLR, students will learn how to organize communities for collective impact and how to identify and deploy multiple methods of civic activism. Finally, they will develop partnerships with other students and create sustained community change. The Social Justice Leadership Retreat will take place September 8-10, 2017. Diversity and Inclusion Adventure Experience (DIVE) Offers Camping Trip

DIVE will have an overnight camping trip at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park on Saturday, April 22 - Sunday, April 23, 2017. No experience is necessary. A limited number of participants will be accepted. Apply by Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

Families of Kids with Special Needs Support Group to Meet on April 26, May 24

The Families of Kids with Special Needs support group invites the NC State community to attend our next two upcoming brown bag lunch meetings on April 26 and May 24, both in Tompkins 131B. In these meetings, we share strategies/stories and provide support and resources to each other. We will continue to invite speakers from the greater community and university. In past meetings, we have had visitors from Wake County public school system, Autism Society and Family Medical Leave officials from the NC State's Benefits Office. Graduate Student Funding Opportunity with Emphasis on Diversity

The North Carolina Water Resources Research Institute and North Carolina Sea Grant announce a joint funding opportunity for graduate students in North Carolina. They intend to fund up to five projects at $10,000 each. Submissions by and/or collaborative partnerships with underrepresented students and faculty, HBCU's, and minority-serving institutions are strongly encouraged. Proposals are due on May 1, 2017.
