Diversity Mini-Grant Program Issues 2014 Call for Proposals

Funding to be Available for Grants Again this Year
Proposals from across NC State were submitted last year for the 2013-14 University Diversity Mini-Grant program sponsored by the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity. Thirteen projects representing an array of opportunities, including research; undergraduate and graduate student recruitment and retention; middle and high school outreach to feed the pipeline of underrepresented students in higher education; faculty recruitment, retention and engagement; student engagement; and cultural competency development were funded. A total of $31,908 in funding was distributed for these worthwhile initiatives. A complete list of awardees and their projects is posted on the Diversity and Inclusion website.

Now It’s Your Turn

Do you have a diversity initiative that is waiting to happen in your department, office, college, or division? OIED is now accepting proposals for the 2014-15 Mini-Grants. All faculty and staff are eligible to apply (full-time, part-time and temporary university employees). Proposals must meet the mini-grant program guidelines and will be selected by a committee appointed by the Vice Provost.  All eligible proposals must be submitted online no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. The maximum proposal request is $3,000.  Announcement of grant recipients will be made by November 2014.

Proposals for projects or research in one or more of the following target areas are encouraged:

(1) enhance the quality of teaching and learning about diversity;

(2) enrich the diversity experiences of all students;

(3) create a welcoming and inclusive work and learning environment where differences are respected and valued, that offers opportunity for and supports the success of all students, staff and faculty;

(4) improve recruitment, retention and graduation of students from historically underrepresented groups; and

(5) increase recruitment, retention and success of faculty from historically underrepresented groups.

The University Diversity Mini-Grant serves as a seed grant to enhance or build an initiative. Previously funded proposals may reapply. However, proposals will only be funded for a maximum of two (2) years.
