NCBI Prejudice Reduction Workshop Registration Open!

NC State Has Been NCBI Chapter Affiliate Since 2001

Last year, NC State's National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) Team presented 43 workshops to 1,339 NC State participants. This is remarkable considering that the team is comprised of volunteer facilitators who work in diverse organizations from across NC State. The team remains in close contact with national NCBI instructors and has been praised as a highly successful campus model for other universities.

The flagship NCBI one-day training, titled "Building Bridges: A Prejudice Reduction Workshop" continues to draw increasing numbers of participants each year due to positive recommendations. Workshop evaluations commonly contain comments such as the following:

"The workshop most definitely increased my knowledge regarding diversity."

"I became more aware of stereotypes, prejudices, and I know how to approach them."

"I enjoyed this so much and I will definitely recommend this to everyone."

"This workshop was a life-changing experience for me."

In 2013, the team achieved its goal of creating a permanent NC State course based on NCBI principles. Titled "Leadership and Coalition Building in Diverse Communities" (USC 240), the course has now been offered three times to NC State students. The course emphasizes attaining cultural competence, which is becoming increasingly critical for today's graduates. The team has recently developed a publicity campaign based on this premise.

To register for an NCBI workshop, please see the OIED Education and Training website. If you are interested in joining the NCBI team, please contact Beverly Jones Williams.
