Several major events will take place this week on campus as part of Diversity Education Week. Don’t forget to pick up your “I Heart Diversity” T-shirt
, while supplies last, at 11:30AM today
in the Brickyard. This evening, special guest Bishop Gene Robinson
will speak at 7:00PM in Witherspoon Cinema
on “God Believes in Love: Straight Talk About Gay Marriage,” following last night’s showing of Love Free, or Die
, a documentary about Robinson’s personal journey. Tomorrow evening, the Annual Fall Diversity Dialogue
will feature Tim Wise
, antiracist author and educator, at 6:30PM in Witherspoon Cinema
(tickets available at the Bookstore). We encourage you to take advantage of these free speaking events.
On Thursday, we invite the entire NC State community to wear purple while attending the third annual NC State Ally Rally
at 11:30AM in the Brickyard
. Two years ago, NC State was rocked by hate messages spray painted on the outside of our GLBT Center. The unintended consequence of those actions was a unified outpouring of support from the NC State community. Hundreds attended the first ally rally, held shortly after that incident, thus establishing a tradition of gathering NC State allies to show continuing commitment to the cause of supporting our GLBT brothers and sisters. Transform yourself from a quiet supporter to someone with a voice of support. Also happening concurrently on Thursday is These Hands Don’t Hurt
from 10:00AM-2:00PM in the Brickyard
. Make a handprint on the canvas and make a pledge to help end violence. After the Ally Rally and adding your handprint to the Women's Center banner, hurry over to the African American Cultural Center in Witherspoon Student Center
for the Lunch and Learn: “Trayvon Martin and Social Justice: Next Steps.”
, wear your “I Heart Diversity” T-shirt!
These are just a few of the numerous events scheduled for this year’s Diversity Education Week. See the entire schedule on the NC State Diversity website
. We hope to see you at the events!
