Staff Diversity

NC State staff are the most diverse subgroup at the university. From the time they participate in New Employee Orientation for permanent employees, NC State staff members know they are a critical force for everyone – students, faculty, staff, visitors and neighbors -- feeling welcome and included within the university. People who feel welcome and included are more likely to be successful and productive, maximizing their potential for fulfilling their critical roles. Diverse employees also model for students the importance of being open to learning from and about others who are different from themselves, a critical component in preparation for working in the global community.
Staff Diversity in the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) promotes a comprehensive approach to staff diversity, working with campus and community members to incorporate diversity awareness, address issues of concern related to diversity in the workplace, promote inclusion of staff at all levels, and improve the recruitment, development and retention of diverse employees. Other efforts include assessing the institutional climate for staff, diversity institutionalization and planning, and accountability and recognition for diversity planning. Key partners are the Staff Senate Diversity Committee, the Council on the Status of Women, Human Resources and other campus and external collaborators.
