The Protected Class of Disability
Definition
Employment: The North Carolina Office of State Personnel defines "disability" as a "handicapping condition: any person who has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities; one who has a record of such impairment; or one who is regarded as having such an impairment."
Education: The Office for Civil Rights (U.S. Department of Education) defines "disability" as "with respect to an individual (a) a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of such individual; (b) a record of such an impairment; or (c) being regarded as having such an impairment."
