Moving Forward with Positivity

NC State faculty, students and staff:

Throughout the past year and leading up to this week’s national election, we have experienced a divisive national discourse. At this time, it is important for us to remember to maintain an environment of respect and civility at NC State and beyond.

While we may not agree with others within our own Wolfpack family, we must take care to be respectful of everyone’s opinions and ideas, even when they differ from our own. We must not allow opposing perspectives to lead to conflict rather than to reasoned discussion and progress.

My staff and I in the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity work to ensure that NC State provides an environment for faculty, students and staff that is free from harassment and discrimination, and one that enables us all to feel welcome and achieve success.

We encourage faculty, students and staff to do the following:

 If you are in need of personal care such as counseling, please avail yourself of resources on campus such as the Counseling Center.

 If you are in need of avenues for discussion, please avail yourself of the opportunities for conversation offered by the Division of Academic and Student Affairs.

 In the coming weeks and months, all are welcome to visit or volunteer at one or more of our campus community centers: the African American Cultural Center, the GLBT Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and the Women’s Center. These community centers welcome all faculty, students and staff and are well-equipped to answer questions and provide educational and volunteer opportunities for a variety of worthwhile initiatives. Faculty are welcome to attend our faculty discussion groups.
