NC State Garners Fourth Minority Grads Ranking
Diverse Issues in Higher Education has published its annual rankings of “Top Producers of Asian American Graduates.” The list, published on May 4, 2017, includes the top 100 producers of associate, bachelor’s and graduate degrees awarded to Asian American graduates in business administration, management and operations; education; and the social sciences. NC State appears on two of the lists.
Bachelor’s Degrees in Engineering
In “Bachelor’s Degrees Awarded to Asian Americans in Engineering,” NC State ranked #31. The top 5 institutions in the category were University of California-Berkeley, University of California-San Diego, Georgia Institute of Technology-Main Campus, University of California-Davis and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Nearby Virginia Tech ranked #21.
Master’s Degrees in Engineering
In “Master’s Degrees Awarded to Asian Americans in Engineering,” NC State ranked #42. The top 5 were San Jose State University, University of Southern California, Cornell University, University of California-Los Angeles and Stanford University. Other southeastern institutions included Georgia Tech at #6, University of Florida at #28 and Virginia Tech at #35.
Other Mentions this Year
The recent recognitions brought NC State’s total to four appearances in the Diverse Issues rankings this year. In the November 17, 2016 issue of Native American graduates, NC State appeared in the rankings of bachelor’s degrees in both engineering and the social sciences. In the July 28, 2016 issue on STEM graduates, NC State appeared in the rankings of total minority bachelor’s degrees in engineering and total minority master’s degrees in engineering. In the February 23, 2017 issue, NC State earned a third set of rankings in bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering awarded to African American graduates.
The analyses are based on data from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics’ Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Set and includes degrees conferred during the 2014-15 academic year.
