OIED’s Year in Review

Take Back the Night March 2017

The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity has published its annual Year in Review.

The Year in Review highlights achievements of the three areas of OIED: Diversity and Inclusion, Equal Opportunity and Equity and the Campus Community Centers, which include the African American Cultural Center, GLBT Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and the Women’s Center, with an introduction from Vice Provost Linda McCabe Smith. The document marks the conclusion of Smith’s first year at the helm of OIED.

Major Developments in 2016-17

We invite you to browse the report to learn more about the current programs and initiatives of OIED. Major developments this year include the change in leadership as well as the addition of a senior director of campus community centers. In his first year in the role, Reggie Barnes launched NC State’s Bias Incident Response Team and worked to develop and refine a unified mission and operations for the campus community centers.

Equal Opportunity and Equity also brought in a new leader, Robinette Kelley. In her first year, Kelley piloted university-wide Title IX online training for students and those designated as Responsible Employees, worked to improve the recruitment and hiring process at NC State, began preparing for the 2018 student sexual violence student survey and updated materials and resources for sexual violence survivors.

Diversity and Inclusion continued its many existing programs while working on a new university-wide cultural competence training initiative, participating in an effort to review the General Education Program diversity course requirement, adding new interfaith prayer and meditation spaces in several locations on campus, supporting military affairs through its Green Zone Training and organizing Diversity Education Week, Diversity Dialogues, Diversity Mini-Grants and other initiatives.

The Year in Review also includes photos from events throughout the year as well as ways that you can get involved to support the mission of OIED to ensure that NC State is a welcoming and inclusive place for all.
