Dr. Tracey Ray is assistant vice provost for student diversity in the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity at NC State University. She is also an adjunct assistant professor in counselor education (2006-present) and teaches in the Africana Studies program (2005-present). She previously served as director of Multicultural Student Affairs at NC State for 10 years. She began teaching at NC State in 1998 and has served in many roles, providing leadership and service on university committees and task forces. Dr. Ray earned a B.A.in psychology (1993), an M.S. in social psychology (1997) and a Ph.D. in social psychology with a minor in public administration (2001) from NC State University.
Dr. Ray has researched, designed and implemented unique programs and services that assist students from all walks of life. In 2009, she was a recipient of a $50,000 Semillas, Growing What Works Grant awarded through Excelencia in Education. Her background as a social psychologist has enabled her to conduct research and program assessment to assist individuals with personal, professional and leadership development, as well as foster student engagement as it relates to student success and cultural competence. Currently, she is a facilitator for the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI). She has presented at a number of national conferences, including the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education, the American Psychological Association, the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, the Association of American Colleges and Universities and the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Centers Annual Meeting. Prior to entering academia, Ray worked at various levels for a Raleigh based non-profit organization, Community Partnerships, Inc., which served individuals with disabilities through an array of community-based services from birth through adulthood. In 1999, she received the Citizen Involvement Award through the Raleigh Mayor’s Committee on Persons with Disabilities.
