New Posters Fulfill One Component of NC State’s Federal Title IX Obligations

The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity has published a new Title IX poster series. The posters are intended for display in all campus buildings as part of NC State’s compliance efforts in accordance with Title IX of the U.S. Education Amendments of 1972.
Title IX prohibits sex discrimination in educational institutions that receive federal funding. Under the law, schools must disseminate a notice of nondiscrimination. The notice prohibiting sex discrimination must be widely distributed, available and easily accessible to the school community each year. The U.S. Department of Education recommends that schools publish the policy online and have it available in print across campus, with enough detail so that members of the community know that sexual harassment and sexual violence are prohibited forms of sex discrimination.
To meet these requirements, NC State offers the Safe at NC State and Title IX website, online training for students and employees on primary prevention and promoting awareness of sexual violence, as well as a new series of Title IX posters that are available for display in every campus building.
NC State employees who are designated as building liaisons will receive instructions regarding how to purchase and display at least one Title IX poster in English in each of their building(s). If space allows, at least one Title IX poster in Spanish should also be displayed. In addition, building liaisons will be asked to remove any old Title IX posters. Up-to-date posters must list Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity Linda McCabe Smith as NC State’s Title IX coordinator.
