Dialogue: Surviving and Thriving as People of Color at Historically White Institutions

Based on the 2016 Huffington Post article by Yareliz Elena Mendez-Zamora, the Women’s Center invites you to a centering dialogue on February 6, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. in the Women’s Center. Join us for an evening group discussion focused on supporting persons of color as we strive to move beyond simply surviving to a place of thriving while navigating historically white institutions.

Participants will engage in dialogue about what it means to be marginalized and othered within historically white institutions and work together to build community, connection and raise scholarship in the face of institutionalized oppression. There will be an opportunity to network as faculty, staff and students as well as to name your own experience of being “othered.”
