WHAT IS AYA?

AYA is the adinkra symbol of endurance and resourcefulness in the image of the fern. The fern is a hardy plant that can grow in difficult places. “An individual who wears this symbol suggests that he has endured many adversities and outlasted much difficulty.” (Willis, The Adinkra Dictionary)

AMBASSADORS

The goals of the AYA Ambassadors are to maximize the leadership potential of ALL members, cultivate skills that will help members develop and operate in an afrocentricity perspective, and to provide opportunities to students that are an extension of the mission of the African American Cultural Center.

MISSION

To support the African American Cultural Center, be the student voice in center operations, embody the Afrocentric perspective, and maximize the leadership potential in all members.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this organization is to represent the African American Cultural Center in functions at the center as well as throughout campus.

AMBASSADOR REQUIREMENTS

ELIGIBILITY

This organization shall be open for membership to all North Carolina State University Students in good University Standing.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

Membership will take place through an application and interview process by the Executive Board and/or the adviser. Selection into the organization shall be based upon criteria met during the interview process.

EXPECTATIONS

Each AYA Ambassador will be required to attend bi-weekly General Body meetings, join a programming committee and either serve as an Officer Ambassador, working at least 2 office hours per week or serve as a Program Ambassador and work 3 events per semester.

EVENTS

Members must attend and actively engage in all signature events including Harambee, Kwanzaa, MLK Commemoration and Ebony Harlem.
