Social Justice January

Campus Community Centers Host Social Justice January

The GLBT Center, Women’s Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and African American Cultural Center will co-host the second annual Social Justice January featuring guest lecturer and workshop facilitator Dr. Ravi Perry, associate professor of Political Science at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Perry is a widely respected advocate for the marginalized and a diversity leader influenced by the politics of representation.

GLBT Advocate Program

GLBT Advocate Program Offers Education and Engagement Opportunities for Faculty and Staff

Launched in August 2015, the GLBT Advocate Program is set to begin its second semester as a continuing education and engagement program for faculty and staff. The program was developed in response to student feedback about the need for more in-depth awareness about GLBT identities, issues faced by GLBT students, and how to practice inclusion.

College Women Lead Conference Coming to NC State

Registration is now open for ‪College Women Lead: The Phenomenal Woman's Conference on February 13, 2016. This full-day campus women's conference focuses on the unique experiences of women of color who are passionate about social justice. You will learn how to navigate challenges and barriers, how to lead and motivate others and how to capitalize on your strengths, assets and gifts. You will leave the conference with a blueprint for a "Purpose Project" that you create. Register online at www.collegewomenlead.com. This event is co-sponsored by the NC State Women's Center. The conference is also seeking both faculty and corporate sponsorships.

Dr. Robert Jones to Speak at NC State on February 17

Dr. Robert J. Jones, president of the State University of New York at Albany, will speak at NC State on February 17, 2016 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the Hatteras-Ocracoke Ballroom in Talley Student Union. His talk will be on "Institutional Culture Change in Higher Education: Leadership and Inclusive Excellence." This event, hosted by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, is free and open to the public.

Sisterhood Dinner Registration Now Open

The 35th Sisterhood Dinner, sponsored by the Council on the Status of Women, is scheduled for Monday, February 29, 2016, with a reception at 5:15 p.m. followed by dinner in the Talley Student Union Ballroom. This year’s Sisterhood Dinner theme is LEAP, in recognition of the leap year date, with LEAP standing for Lead, Empower, Act, Prevail. Recipients of the 2016 Equity for Women Awards will also be announced. The award nomination form and dinner registration form are available on the Council on the Status of Women website. To donate to the silent auction, please contact Kimberly Zugay in the Women’s Center. Contact Julieta Sherk for reception donations.

Opening: Senior Director of Campus Community Centers

OIED is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of senior director of campus community centers. The senior director is responsible for supervising the African American Cultural Center, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) Center, Multicultural Student Affairs, and the Women’s Center. NC State Becomes Institutional Member of National Center for Faculty Diversity and Development

With support from Provost Warwick Arden, NC State has recently become an institutional member of the National Center for Faculty Diversity and Development (NCFDD). The NCFDD is committed to helping academics thrive and offers a variety of programs and services to help graduate students, post-doctoral scholars and faculty increase their research and writing productivity, create networks of support on campus and across institutions nation-wide and develop a stronger sense of work-life balance.
