Associate Professor of History to Discuss Impact of HB2

The GLBT Center will host the first of two guest lectures addressing institutionalized discrimination as part of GLBT History Month. On Thursday, October 20, 2016 Dr. Tammy Gordon, NC State associate professor of history, will give a talk on “The Impact of Legalized Oppression: The HB2 Digital Archive” from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in Park Shops 210.

Donate Water, Nonperishable Food, Toiletries and Diapers to Lumberton Residents

Following Hurricane Matthew, the city of Lumberton is still submerged in water and in need of help. Multicultural Student Affairs is collecting water, nonperishables, toiletries and diapers as well as monetary donations to help residents. Drop-off locations are Talley 4261 and Park Shops, 2nd floor.

NC State International Affairs, in partnership with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the PowerAmerica Institute, is pleased to host Dr. Hiroshi Amano of Nagoya University to NC State campus for a Distinguished Lecture.

Film Showing: Confirmation, Starring Kerry Washington as Anita Hill

Women's and Gender Studies and the UAB Films Committee will show the HBO film Confirmation starring Kerry Washington on October 19, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in Witherspoon Cinema. As you all may know, this film was created to re-explore the then Supreme Court Justice nominee Clarence Thomas' trial for sexual harassment of former employee Anita Hill (Washington). Following the showing, there will be a panel discussion with Dr. Blair LM Kelley (@profblmkelley), historian and NC State assistant dean of interdisciplinary studies and international programs, and Duke University Professor Mark Anthony Neal (@NewBlackMan), author of New Black Man and creator of @LeftOfBlack.

Goodnight Scholars Program Presents TED Senior Fellow, Epibone CEO Dr. Nina Tandon

The Goodnight Scholars Program welcomes TED Senior Fellow and CEO of EpiBone Dr. Nina Tandon for her presentation “Body 3.0” as part of the “Goodnight Scholars Program Presents” speaker series. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Talley Student Union Stewart Theatre. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free. In this thrilling and eye-opening talk, Dr. Tandon will explain the process of growing tissue and transplants and the future of medical science. With the help of manufacturing and information technology, we are on the verge of being able to grow human tissue – and Dr. Tandon is here to walk us through this unbelievably exciting era, which can simply be defined as science fiction meeting reality. Dr. DeLeon Gray: "Making Scholastic Activities Worthwhile for Black Adolescents"

Dr. DeLeon Gray is assistant professor of educational psychology at NC State. His research focuses on the ways in which students' achievement, motivation and school behavior may be traced back to interpretations of their own social encounters.
