NC State Celebrates Indigenous Peoples' Day

This year, students successfully brought Indigenous Peoples' Day to NC State, an historical first. Part of the mission of the NC State GLBT Center is to provide ongoing support for GLBT faculty and staff on campus. To fulfill that mission, the GLBT Center coordinates the GLBT Faculty and Staff Network to provide an opportunity for GLBT faculty and staff to connect and form community, to supply feedback about campus climate, to support and mentor GLBT students, and to connect with prospective GLBT faculty and staff.

Multicultural Student Affairs Introduces Volunteer Ambassador Program

Are you looking for a leadership and involvement opportunity that is just right for you? Do you enjoy serving and helping others? Do you get excited about the events and activities hosted by Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA)? Do you need volunteer hours?

The purpose of the Multicultural Student Affairs Volunteer Ambassador program is to identify leaders with a passion for service and build a consistent team of select volunteers who will be trained to serve at the forefront of MSA events and initiatives, serve as representatives for MSA at campus events and serve as advocates for the MSA mission.
 
Please consider getting involved. The first group meeting will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Talley 4261. For more information or to RSVP, email Latosha Williams.

Diversity Inclusion adVenture Experience (DIVE) Upcoming Events

Diversity Inclusion adVenture Experience (DIVE) has the following upcoming events. Come out and see what they are all about!

  • Hunger Awareness Dinner on October 20, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in Caldwell Lounge. The Dinner will simulate the effects of food inequality and discuss what action to take towards alleviating these issues. Professor Bob Patterson, who instructs "World Population and Food Prospects" will be speaking about the underlying causes of unequal food distribution. The cost of participation is $2.00, which will be donated to Stop Hunger Now's Food Packaging Campaign. Please RSVP.
  • The next planning committee meeting will be October 21 in the Carmichael Gym Playzone room 1601 followed by the general body meeting from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Food will be provided.

Webinar: "Transgender Students on Campus: Serve, Protect & Retain Your Gender Nonconforming Students"

The GLBT Center will host a webinar on Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in Talley 4140. The topic of the webinar is "Transgender Students on Campus: Serve, Protect & Retain Your Gender Nonconforming Students." The webinar will run from 2:00-3:30 and the GLBT Center will facilitate a debrief/discussion from 3:30-4:00 about action steps/strategies that can be applied on our campus. The learning outcomes for the webinar are:

  • an understanding of the current demographics and diverse experiences of transgender and other gender nonconforming college student populations
  • support systems your campus can put into place to avoid transgender and other gender nonconforming students experiencing discrimination in campus housing, facilities, health services, student activities, athletics, and admissions
  • specific strategies your institution can implement now, that will meet the current needs of your transgender and other gender nonconforming community on your campus
  • steps you can take to make your campus safe and welcoming for transgender students
  • valuable resources and information about new research on the experiences and needs of transgender, and other gender nonconforming college students that you can use within your campus community. Please join us and pass this info along to colleagues on campus who might be interested in attending.
