"Cracking the Codes: Systems of Inequity," Fall Diversity Dialogue with Dr. Shakti Butler

This year's Fall Diversity Dialogue, to be facilitated by Dr. Shakti Butler, filmmaker, founder and president of World Trust Education Service, will engage you in talking about the system of racial inequity prompted by the stories in the film "Cracking the Codes: the System of Racial Inequity." Participate in this experience on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Coastal Ballroom in Talley Student Union. The Fall Diversity Dialogue is a main event of NC State's Diversity Education Week, October 18-25, 2014. See list of events at right.

NC State’s "At Home In the World" Student Organization Activity Grant supports the creation of new or significantly enhanced co-curricular programs, events or activities that meet the objectives of the At Home In The World (AHITW) initiative to promote cross-cultural understanding and competencies by promoting collaboration between diversity and internationalization efforts across campus. Black Alumni Society Legacy Dinner Gala To Be Held on November 6

The Alumni Association and Black Alumni Society are hosting a Legacy Dinner on Thursday, November 6, 2014. We would love for alumni and friends to attend the dinner. This is the 35th anniversary year of the Black Alumni Society, and this will be a special evening honoring its achievements. See BAS Gala for more information. NC State's National Diversity Advisory Board to Meet on November 7

NC State's National Diversity Advisory Board will convene on campus again on November 7. Board members will return to campus for a full day of diversity- and equity-related programs. The Board is comprised of alumni and friends of NC State who have a vested interest in guiding the University in enhancing diversity and equity initiatives. For Faculty Considering Administrative Positions

The Provost’s Office invites all tenured faculty to consider applying for Leadership for a Diverse Campus, a semester-long leadership development program to be offered in Spring 2015. This program is intended for tenured associate or full professors who are interested in exploring an administrative career path in the increasingly diverse world of higher education. The program is an outgrowth of the ADVANCE Leadership Workshop, a NSF-funded project that ran between 2009-2011 and established a track record of preparing faculty for department head and other administrative positions. Leadership for a Diverse Campus will be offered each year. For more information, please contact workshop facilitators Betsy Brown or Laura Severin. Applications are due by Friday, November 21, 2014.

Staff Women's Network (WINGS) Meetings

The staff women's network known as WINGS (Women in Networking, Giving back and Service) is spreading its wings this fall as it offers programs for staff at two different time slots: lunchtime and after work. On October 23, 2014, the WINGS after-work group will meet at 5:15 p.m. at Mitch's on Hillsborough Street for lively conversation. On October 28, 2014, the lunch-time group will meet at noon in Student Health Center, Room 2301 to hear about Career Progress from Deborah Wright, Human Resources Director of Compensation and Classification. All meetings are open to all NC State employees. If you would like to receive notices of upcoming meetings, please email Dr. Deb Luckadoo, Director of Staff Diversity.

I (heart) Diversity Group Photo Planned for
Diversity Education Week

The GLBT Center will distribute “I (heart) Diversity” t-shirts again this year as part of Diversity Education Week. In addition to the t-shirt giveaway, the Center will also host an Ally Rally to raise awareness about gender diversity and pronoun use, to promote the upcoming Ally Visibility Video Campaign and to gather campus Allies together for a group photo. The t-shirt distribution will take place on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., and the Ally Rally will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 12:00 – 2:30 p.m. Both events will be held in Wolf Plaza. The group photo will be taken at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Everyone with an “I (heart) Diversity” t-shirt (new or old) is invited to wear their shirt to Wolf Plaza for the photo.
