Shoeboxes of Love Enters Final Week of 2013 Drive

Question: What is/are Shoeboxes of Love?

Answer: Shoeboxes of Love is the African American Cultural Center’s annual donation drive, for which YOU can donate play items and necessities for local Raleigh area children during this cold winter season. Shoeboxes of Love
It’s easy and much appreciated! Here is how to do it:

1. Purchase a plastic shoebox.

This will allow the recipient to keep his/her items stored in a durable container. These can be found at your local dollar store, drugstore, or discount store.

2. Add the essentials to your box.

The essentials are: a scarf, gloves, hat, chapstick, hand sanitizer, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. These are the same for all boxes and every box must have them.

3. Add recommended additional items.

Additional items could be new, unused school supplies, health/hygiene items, art supplies, educational games, reading materials, socks/booties, infant supplies, or age-specific items. Please see the African American Cultural Center’s website for a list of suggestions for specific age groups.

4. Do not gift wrap your box or items.

However, feel free to decorate the box with stickers, glitter, ribbon, etc.

5. Drop off your box at Witherspoon.

Download and create a tag for your box, then bring it to the African American Cultural Center Art Gallery, on the second floor of Witherspoon Student Center, by Friday, December 6, 2013. Optionally, create a Thank You Heart with your name for display at the Cultural Center.

Thank you for your donation. Every shoebox warms the heart of its recipient during the cold holiday season.

Spread some winter cheer to those in need this holiday season!
