Black History Month Art Exhibition: "Music Trails of North Carolina"

As part of NC State's Black History Month celebration, the African American Cultural Center Art Gallery presents "African American Music Trails of North Carolina" through Saturday, March 4, 2017. The exhibition features 69 framed photos taken by renowned photographers Cedric Chatterley and Titus Brooks Heagins, as well as a variety of historic photographs from private collectors.

Department of Social Work and GLBT Community to Host Panel on Religion and Sexuality

Join the Department of Social Work, the GLBT Center and the GLBT Community Alliance for a panel discussion on the relationship between faith and sexuality. Hear from local faith leaders about how they interpret the doctrine of their faith and how they are called to create space within their faith communities for all those who come to worship. Panelists will include Rev. Brian D. Crisp (Community Minister at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church), Imam Antepli, Rabbi Leah A. Citrin, Jennifer Manis (Lutheran Campus Minister) and Emma Akpan (Deacon at African Methodist Episcopal Church). The event will include Q&A as well as open dialogue among attendees. Interested students, staff, faculty and community members are welcome to attend on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in Dabney Hall, Room 222.

Fourth Annual Latin American Research Symposium

The Latin American Student Association (LASA) presents the fourth annual Latin American Research Symposium on Friday, February 24, 2017 a 5:00 p.m. in Talley Student Union, Room 4280. Keynote speakers will be Dr. Chelsey Juarez and Dr. Maria Correa. Latino faculty in R1 academic careers will present at a poster session with networking and dinner. Interfaith Food Drive in Honor of Deah, Yusor and Razan Through February 24

The Wolfpack community is invited to drop off canned goods at the Brooks Hall Lobby through February 24, 2017 in honor of Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha and Razan Abu-Salha, alumni of NC State who are remembered through memorial awards, a foundation, ongoing philanthropic efforts and #OurThreeWinners. Donations will go to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

GLBT Center Offers New Asexuality and Aromantic Workshop on March 1

The GLBT Center will host a new workshop titled “Not Driven by Desire: Understanding Asexual and Aromantic Identities” on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 p.m in Talley Student Union, Room 3222. Whether our society acknowledges it or not, there are multiple factors involved in relationships besides sexual desire. This two-hour workshop explores identities in which sexual attraction or romantic attraction are not experienced to the degree our culture expects. Participants will learn about how asexual and aromantic identities impact someone’s life and interactions with the rest of the GLBT community and how to affirm and support their experiences. This workshop is open to NC State undergraduates, graduate students, staff, faculty and alumni as well as interested members of the local community. Registration is encouraged but not required.

Peer Mentor Program Accepting Student Mentor Applications Through March 1

The Peer Mentor Program aims to create a supportive network for culturally diverse incoming first-year students. The program pairs incoming students with upperclassmen, who serve as mentors throughout the incoming student’s first year. Mentors maintain relationships with their mentees and help ensure their growth and success. The program also works to connect first-year students to campus resources, student organizations and events that match the interests of each individual student.

“Truth Seeking by the Lights of Perverted Science: Exposing the Flint Water Disaster"

The Gerald H. Elkan Distinguished Lecture in Science and Society, “Truth Seeking by the Lights of Perverted Science: Exposing the Flint Water Disaster” will be presented on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Hunt Library. Named among the most influential people in the world by Time, Fortune, Politico and Foreign Policy in 2016, Edwards' research laid the groundwork for investigative science uncovering the 2001-2004 D.C. Lead Crisis and the 2014-2016 Flint Water Disaster. This talk is presented by the Park Scholarships at NC State, with support from the NCSU Libraries and the College of Sciences and is free and open to the public.

NC State's First International Festival to be Held on March 31

The International Festival at NC State will be held on Friday March 31, 2017 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. on Stafford Commons. This event will promote cultural competency and expose students, faculty and staff to new perspectives and traditions from different areas around the world. There will be cultural performances throughout the event, including various forms of creative and artistic expression such as music, dance and poetry. GLBT Center's Lavender Graduation to be Held on April 26

The GLBT Center will host its annual Lavender Graduation ceremony on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Piedmont-Mountains Ballroom, Talley Student Union. Lavender Graduation provides an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of 2017 GLBT graduates. All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend. No RSVP is required.
