This year’s Tunnel of Oppression will be piloting two new rooms focused on Islamophobia and Xenophobia, as well as exploring other forms of oppression in light of recent events taking place at campuses across the country.

NC State First: Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

This year, NC State is celebrating its inaugural Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) History Month with a variety of events that will be hosted by numerous student groups. These events go beyond food, culture and dance and address topics such as the "model minority myth," gender roles, stereotypes, faith and professional networking opportunities.

Today! Campus Diversity Dialogue, Witherspoon Cinema

Everyone has a race. For many white people, talking about race is uncomfortable. For people of color, it’s unavoidable. The spring campus diversity dialogue will feature the short film, White People, A Documentary, by Pulitzer-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas. All students, faculty and staff are invited to join the viewing of this short film and interactive discussion to share your thoughts, experiences and opinions as well as build skills for effective dialogue on issues of race. This event is free and open to the public and will take place today from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in Witherspoon Cinema.

HEA Professional Development Week for Graduate Staff

The Higher Education Association (HEA) will host its inaugural TPE (The Placement Exchange) Week at NC State on February 29, 2016 through March 4, 2016. The week will consist of a mix of in-person and online interactive activities and events. Celebrate the week by participating in the Photo-a-Day Challenge. To participate, follow @NCState_HEA, and post a picture in response to the daily activity or event on Instagram or Twitter. Make sure to tag @NCState_HEA and #NCStateTPE for a chance to win a special prize!

Muslim Students Association Film Festival to Feature Student Submitted Films and Live Performances

NC State's Muslim Student Association Night is an entertainment event that brings a huge diverse community of people together for a night of reflection, laughs and inspiration. This year's "Film Festival" theme invites creativity, inspiration and authentic storytelling, directly from NC State students, to present the Muslim-American narrative as a positive and inclusive one.

The entire campus community is invited to share this special night on Friday March 4, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in Stewart Theatre, Talley Student Union. Tickets will be sold at MSA events, in person, online or at the door. This event will count toward Scholars Forum credit. Graduate School Preparation Day for Students of Color

The Center for Developmental Science (CDS) at UNC-Chapel Hill is hosting Graduate School Preparation Day for Students of Color on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. - 5:00 p.m. This event is aimed towards students of color who are interested in going on to graduate school for fields of study in developmental science, such as psychology, education, social work, public health, etc. This event is free and lunch will be provided. CENet Presents: "Cultural Conversations"

Cultural Conversations provides NC State and SKEMA Business School students the opportunity to explore cultural differences with their peers from all around the world. Each conversation lasts between 50 minutes to 1.25 hours, and consists of peer-led small group discussions on navigating cultural scenarios. The conversation is designed to help participants discover methods for communicating across cultural differences.

Lunch & Learn: "Unconscious Bias: The Hidden Barrier"

Training & Organizational Development (T&OD) invites you to join the discussion on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. in the Talley Student Center Room 3210 on Cates Avenue. In this pre-recorded session Howard Ross explores the unconscious biases we each carry within us. Ross examines how these biases inform every decision we make on a daily basis, from professional decisions about hiring or firing to everyday decisions like where to go out to eat.

Call for Proposals: Leaders Under Construction

The Student Leadership Training Committee at NC State hopes to continue to engage new and developing student leaders. Last year, the inaugural Leaders Under Construction (LUC) Student Conference was a huge success and well received. This year's LUC conference will take place on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Talley Student Union.

The conference is a collaboration between many campus partners and continues to focus specifically on emerging student leaders. The LUC conference planning team is currently seeking presentations to encourage high impact, high profile students to embrace their growing leadership. Proposals should cover a topic that relates to the themes of the conference and are due by Monday, March 7, 2016 by 11:59 p.m. Please contact Student Leader Training Committee Chair Stephanie Klein with questions.
