The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity hosted the Chancellor's Creating Community Awards on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in the new Talley Ballroom. The annual Awards recognizes faculty, staff, colleges, students, and student organizations that have made exceptional efforts and contributions in the areas of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Nominations were collected from the NC State community in an open nomination process conducted by OIED's Diversity and Inclusion unit starting in February. The faculty and staff winners received cash awards of $500 with matching awards for their departments. The college winner received $1,000 in discretionary funds. Student and Student Organization winners also received $500.

This course now includes assignments to help students understand the importance of cultural competence and inclusive practices."

The nominataion of the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha included the following: "As a service sorority, they devote their talents and resources to various initiatives, which are: emerging young leaders, environmental stewardship and sustainability, asthma prevention and management, health, global poverty, economic security, social justice and human rights. This year, the Chapter hosted a broad range of programs and initiatives that connect with diversity awareness, inclusion and equity."
