What Thrives on Silence?

Domestic Violence is one of the many gender equity and social justice topics that the NC State Women’s Center addresses throughout the year. During Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October, you can attend seven events and workshops designed to educate and engage our campus community on the impact of domestic violence and tangible ways we can support survivors and work earnestly to display our intolerance toward the perpetration of domestic violence in our community.

GLBT History Month Events Begin on Thursday

The GLBT Center will kick off GLBT History Month on Thursday, October 1, 2015 with an array of events that includes workshops and programs about microaggressions, queer history, Project SAFE, intersectionality in the gay community and a documentary screening. The month also coincides with National Coming Out Day and NC State's Diversity Education Week.

The Chancellor’s First Year Student Leadership Program seeks to identify and nurture a cohort of emerging leaders for the class of 2016 participants. The primary objective is to develop student leaders who are civic-minded, intellectually able, and professionally skilled, and who will become the community, business, and national leaders of the future.

Program Specifics: Weekly Meetings (Mondays) 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm; small group discussions; Community service events; Opportunity to network with campus and community leaders on and off campus; Training in leadership skills; Dinners and special programs with the Chancellor and Mrs. Woodson.

Selection Criteria: Participation in the Chancellor’s First Year Student Leadership Program is a competitive process open to first year students enrolled at NC State University including transfer students and students entering college with advanced status. The Selection Committee will select up to (25) participants who will represent a cross-section of the University. Applicants must have the support of one faculty member, academic advisor, and/or high school teacher/counselor.

Application Period: Opens Monday, September 28, 2015 and closes on Friday, November 6, 2015, at 5:00 p.m.

Upcoming Information Sessions: To learn more about the program, the following informational sessions will be held in the Women’s Center:

Annual "Careers in Student Affairs Month" Panel on October 1

Did you know October is Careers in Student Affairs Month? Each year NC State’s Higher Education Association (HEA), the graduate student association for NC State’s Higher Education Administration program, hosts a Careers in Student Affairs Month Panel to celebrate the field and to provide undergraduate students (and graduates) at area institutions an opportunity to learn more about higher education/student affairs as a possible career path.
