David Elrod, Ed.D.
J. David Elrod is the associate vice provost for equal opportunity and equity. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Gardner-Webb University and both his master’s in higher education administration and doctorate in educational leadership from Appalachian State University. His previous experience includes financial aid, university housing, teaching in higher education administration and college student development graduate programs and serving as director of student conduct. He has served in several state and national positions within the Association for Student Conduct Administrators (ASCA) and NASPA. He received the 2016 ASCA Dissertation of the Year Award for his research on Title IX policies and implementation.

Carley Dix, J.D.
Carley Dix is an assistant equal opportunity officer at NC State. Originally from Tallahassee, Florida, she received her undergraduate degree in anthropology from the University of Florida. Prior to joining the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, she earned her J.D. at the University of Richmond School of Law in May 2015. During her time as a law student, she focused her studies on disability rights law and education law working with the Disability Law Center of Virginia and the University of Richmond’s Education Rights Clinic. In addition, she is a certified mediator.

Dave Johnson is an assistant equal opportunity officer at NC State. A native of Morgantown, West Virginia, he earned his B.S. in sport behavior from West Virginia University, and his M. Ed. in higher and postsecondary education from Argosy University. Prior to joining NC State, he was an investigator and program coordinator at the West Virginia University Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. In that role, he conducted investigations and provided information, consultation, counseling and training in the areas of Title IX, illegal discrimination and harassment to WVU students and employees. He has been certified by the Association of Title IX Administrators as a Title IX coordinator and administrator and as a civil rights investigator.

Brianna Williams, J.D.
Brianna Williams is an assistant equal opportunity officer at NC State. Before coming to NC State, Williams served as the Title IX coordinator and AA/EEO Officer for two campuses in the Louisiana State University system. As Title IX coordinator and AA/EEO officer, she oversaw and monitored compliance issues involving discrimination and oversaw all hiring search processes, monitoring each stage to ensure compliance with university policies and state and federal laws. She also prepared the Affirmative Action Plan for each campus and worked closely with campus departments to implement intentional practices to address underutilizations. Moreover, Williams developed and facilitated presentations and workshops for various diverse audiences.
Williams has been certified by the Association of Title IX Administrators as a Title IX coordinator and has also been certified as a EEO investigator.

Mia Thompson is the program coordinator for the Equal Opportunity and Equity unit of the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity. Mia earned her bachelor of arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her ultimate goal is to pursue an educational doctoral degree to better serve students and the campus community. She has a background in sexual violence prevention and education and most recently worked at East Carolina University as the programs assistant for the Department of History.
