WEEK OF ACTION 2017

Each March the GLBT Center hosts a Week of Action designed to provide students, staff and faculty with opportunities to engage in discussion and advocacy around intersectional social justice issues. While the Week of Action includes an event for Transgender Day of Visibility on or around March 31, this annual event also seeks to give members of the NC State community a space to explore other advocacy efforts that are important to them while providing them with tools to better advocate for themselves and others. The 2017 Week of Action will be held March 27-31.

MONDAY MARCH 27

Community Memorial: Naming and Remembering Victims of Police Violence

Time:  5:00-7:00 p.m.
Location:  Talley Student Union, Lobby

The GLBT Center will host the creation of a community memorial to name and remember the victims of police violence. Members of the Wolfpack community will choose to learn about an individual who was killed by police since January 1, 2017 and craft a posthumous dedication. This memorial will be on display in the lobby of Talley Student Union through Friday, March 31, 2017.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 29

Sitting with Privilege Workshop

Time:  3:00-5:00 p.m.
Location:  Talley Student Union, Room 4280

“Sitting with Privilege” is a two-hour workshop that will help participants critically examine the impact of their identities on their experiences, recognize the barriers they may (or may not) face depending on their identities, identify common behaviors that can perpetuate barriers for others and explore ways to use their access and opportunity to create space for others.

THURSDAY MARCH 30

Transgender Day of Visibility and Pronoun Awareness Campaign

Time:  10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location:  Talley Student Union, Lobby

The GLBT Center will host a Pronoun Awareness Campaign in observance of Transgender Day of Visibility. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate in the #GenderPronounAwareness by getting their picture taken with their pronouns and gathering posters to spread the word across campus.
