As part of our mission, the NC State GLBT Center offers identity-based and health-related information and resources, consults with students individually and collectively on issues related to personal identity and academic success, and refers students to a wide variety of resources on campus and in the local community. The Center also houses a reading library with a wide variety of texts related to the GLBT community; all of our library materials are available for check out. Review the information below to learn more about the services and resources offered in the Center.

The staff members at the GLBT Center are available to meet with students individually and in small groups to discuss GLBT identity exploration, the coming out process, tension or conflict with friends or family, financial difficulties, housing or roommate issues, academic assistance, or any other topic as needed. Students can stop by the Center Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. –  5 p.m. or can contact us to schedule an appointment.

The GLBT Center hosts weekly Drop-In Counseling hours every Tuesday from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the Center Lounge (Talley Student Union, Suite 5230). One staff member from the NC State Counseling Center is available each week to meet with students informally in the Center Lounge or privately in one of the Center offices. No appointment is necessary. Students are welcome to stop by if they have questions or concerns or just want someone to talk to. The issues do not need to be GLBT related.

The Counseling Center also coordinates two GLBT-specific counseling groups.

The GLBT Center provides a wide range of pamphlets and brochures, including information about safer sex practices and free safer sex supplies. Students can stop by the Center Lounge (Talley Student Union, Suite 5230) Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. to pick up materials.

The Center also hosts monthly HIV/STI testing. Representatives from the Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina provide FREE and CONFIDENTIAL HIV and STI testing on the last Wednesday of each month from 1-4 PM in Talley 4132. No insurance paperwork or appointment required. Students can stop by and request HIV (rapid and traditional), syphilis, Gonorrhea/chlamydia, and hepatitis C testing. Free safer sex supplies (latex and non-latex condoms, female condoms, lubricant and dental dams) will also be available. To view upcoming testing times, check out our calendar.

To help students prepare to enter and succeed in the workforce, the GLBT Center provides information about professional conferences held each year for GLBT college students. Some of these annual professional development opportunities include the Out for Work Conference, the Out to Innovate Conference, the Out for Undergraduate Technology Conference and the oSTEM Conference.

The Center also helps students connect and get involved with national professional organizations for GLBT students, scholars and scientists. Two of the primary organizations that promote professional development for students majoring in science, technology, engineering and mathematics are oSTEM and NOGLSTP.
