NC State Earns Place in Top Minority STEM Graduates Rankings

Diverse Issues in Higher EducationThe July 28, 2016 edition of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education ranks NC State 27th in this year’s rankings of total minority bachelor’s degrees in engineering and 33rd for master’s degrees in engineering. Data for the analysis was obtained from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics based on degrees conferred during the 2013-14 academic year.

Georgia Institute of Technology earned the #1 spot as the highest-ranking university for bachelor’s degrees in engineering, followed by University of California at Berkeley and University of California at San Diego. University of Texas at Austin and Cal State Poly, University of Pomona rounded out the top 5. Nearby Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University earned a #20 ranking.

San Jose State University earned the #1 spot for master’s degrees in engineering, followed by Georgia Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of California at Los Angeles and University of Southern California.

The publication also ranks bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in terms of minority graduates in the fields of mathematics and statistics, physical sciences, and computer and information sciences.
