Open House at the Campus Community Centers Tomorrow

Symposium counselors 2017

Join the Campus Community Centers on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 as we welcome new and returning students at our annual fall Open House. Meet the staff of Multicultural Student Affairs (Talley 4261), the Women’s Center (Talley 5210), the GLBT Center (Talley 5230) and the African American Cultural Center (Witherspoon 355). The Campus Community Centers work together under senior director Reggie Barnes to collaboratively engage students across identities, increase awareness of diversity issues through education and foster a welcoming and respectful campus. Three centers in Talley Student Union will be hosting Open House from 1:00-3:00 p.m., and the African American Cultural Center will host Open House from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in Witherspoon Student Center, a short walk from Talley down Cates Avenue. This is a great opportunity to meet the staff, make new friends and hear about what each center has to offer.

Multicultural Student Affairs

Multicultural Student Affairs will share information on leadership opportunities, student organizations and university resources. Information on our signature Peer Mentor Program and MSA Volunteer Ambassadors (MSA VA) will be available for incoming and returning students. Students and guests are invited to join us on the fourth floor of Talley to meet the friendly staff of MSA! There will be pens, pencils, water bottles and power banks available for all attendees to take home. Come say hello!

Women’s Center

Afterward, make your way up the red stairs to the Women’s Center, where a cup of coffee and a warm smile is always available. Join us for coffee and desserts while you mingle with the Feminist Friday Collective and the Movement Peer Educators. We’ll share with you important upcoming events, such as our Women of Color Retreat, the 4:44 Listening Party and Wellness Wednesdays, as well as opportunities to get involved, hone your leadership skills and be supported every step of the way during your time at NC State. We’ll have crafts, games, music and did we mention swag?

GLBT Center

Next door at the GLBT Center, members of the Volunteer, Internship and Practicum (VIP) Program will greet you. Students will receive swag bags stuffed with information about the five student organizations associated with the GLBT Center, upcoming events, leadership and professional development opportunities and other GLBT Center resources. Everyone will receive pronoun buttons, and GLBT Center staff will be introduced via our large-screen TV. You’ll also find games available to break the ice!

African American Cultural Center

Down the street at Witherspoon Student Center, you will find the African American Cultural Center suites on two floors. On the second floor, stop in for a tour of the Library and Media Room. This suite features a collection of educational and leisure reading and audio/visual resources by and about Africans, African Americans and other members of the African Diaspora. You can enter the library through the AACC Art Gallery, which hosts nationally and internationally recognized artists known for capturing various historical and contemporary happenings related to African American and African Diaspora cultures. On the third floor of Witherspoon, you will meet the phenomenal staff of the AACC. Make sure to stop by!
