Our campus community centers provide a home away from home for all of our students.

SPACE FOR ALL

At NC State, our community centers provide a safe space to hang out, meet with friends and study, as well as connect with professional staff in the centers. The centers also sponsor a wide range of programs for all students. The campus centers are for everyone — they are inclusive spaces, places for everyone to enjoy, learn and grow. With three of our centers located in Talley Student Union and one in Witherspoon Student Center, chances are you have passed one or have a favorite study space nearby. Next time, stop in and visit a center – you just may find a new home.

SIGNATURE EVENTS

Each year, in addition to a wide variety of events each center sponsors, we have a few standout events that have become a major part of OIED, and of the university. Those events we call our signature events and hope that each student has a chance to enjoy them during their time on campus.

The Chocolate Festival

During Parents and Families Weekend in the fall, the Women’s Center hosts the annual Chocolate Festival for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research. Chocolate vendors from the local community donate samples that participants enjoy while raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

MLK Campus Commemoration

Each January, the MLK Campus Commemoration is hosted by the African American Cultural Center with an inspirational speaker to bring a message to the community. Past speakers have included Byron Pitts, Melissa Harris-Perry, Iyanla Vanzant and Dick Gregory.

Summer Symposium

Multicultural Student Affairs coordinates the Symposium for Multicultural Scholars in the summer before each academic year. Symposium is a great way to connect with new friends and get familiar with campus before classes begin.

Ally Rally

The GLBT Center hosts an annual rally in Wolf Plaza for GLBT students and allies to gather to celebrate and support the GLBT community.

“The GLBT Center gives me a place to go to study and see friends on a daily basis. They also provide many resources and have such great, supportive people working there. It’s just an awesome place to be.”

Miranda DiSanti

GLBT Center volunteer

“MSA has provided me with many opportunities to develop as a leader, to develop lasting relationships with people that look like me, and connect with my culture. I appreciate the space and its meaning for the campus community, as well as the professionals that work there.”

Jasmine Cannon

Multicultural Student Affairs volunteer

“I love the work that the Women’s Center does and the people I meet through the Women’s Center’s programs. It’s my favorite place to go between classes. I’m so thankful to have found my niche on campus.”
