GLBT Center Hosts Second Annual Symposium for New Students
On Saturday, August 15, 86 students participated in the second annual GLBT Symposium. This half-day event is held each fall during move-in weekend as a way for incoming GLBT students to connect with each other, form community, learn about the services and resources offered by the GLBT Center and find out how they can get involved on campus.

University Diversity Mini-Grant Program Provides Funding to Campus Initiatives
Diversity Mini-Grants have funded projects ranging from universal design to increasing the presence of women in civil engineering. The program is currently accepting new proposals. Kathy Hamilton Gore, teaching associate professor in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management and 2014-15 grant co-recipient with Dr. Edwin K. Lindsay, discusses the impact of their grant.

Andy DeRoin Joins the GLBT Center as Program Coordinator
Andy DeRoin joined the GLBT Center on July 7, 2015. In this newly created position, Andy will help launch the Volunteer, Internship and Practicum (VIP) Program to engage students as leaders in initiatives across campus, serve as facilitator for T-Files, the transgender peer support group and host GSYPN, a networking group for GLBT-identified graduate students.

Diversity Education Week serves to promote awareness of diverse cultures and fosters intercultural understanding through lectures, workshops, panel and group discussions, information sessions, film, food, music, dance and more. 2015 Conference on Leadership and Diversity
The 2015 Conference on Leadership and Diversity, sponsored by the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Talley Student Union Ballroom. This year’s conference is entitled Think and Do: Building a Sustainable Model for Inclusive Leadership.
The conference will feature three concurrent workshops designed to meet the needs of participants: those who are exploring diversity training for the first time, those who have built a foundation of understanding diversity and want tools to be more effective and, finally, a track devoted to those who serve as university leaders – unit and department heads and directors from all parts of the university.
Oscar Santos, from BB&T's Leadership and Professional Development area with responsibility for over 6,000 managers, will participate for the second year as the opening speaker and facilitator of the university leaders’ workshop. Registration for the conference will begin September 1. The cost will be $29 through September 15, $35 from September 16-30.
