What is the Equal Opportunity Institute?
EOI is a year-long certificate program that welcomes participants from the entire spectrum of NC State students, staff, and faculty. While the Institute only requires 10 two-hour workshops to earn a certificate and two Continuing Education Units (CEUs), it offers a very broad array of topics, ranging from “Exploring Oppression” to the well-known “Building Bridges: Strengthening Leadership for Diverse Communities” workshop taught by facilitators from NC State’s National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) Team.
Word of mouth has propelled EOI into a popular on-campus program that a number of NC State divisions have institutionalized within their curricula and/or staff training. For many years, Public Safety, the College of Management, University Housing, and the Office for Instutional Equity and Diversity have sent employees through EOI. In addition, both undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of Human Resources and Social Work have received class credit for attending.
For those who have already graduated from EOI, the EOI Graduate Scholar classification is now offered for those who wish to return to the program and attend additional workshops. Graduate Scholars are recognized with an EOI pin at EOI Graduation.
Recent EOI graduate Garry Morgan from the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity states, “EOI is a great program that offers and grants access to different people and ideas.” Please see the new EOI website for more information about the program.
We hope to see you in EOI this year!
