NC State Police Offers Free Four-Session Self Defense Class for Women November 7-16

The NC State Police Department will be hosting a free R.A.D. for Women Self Defense Class in November. This class will be held at the NC State Police Department, located at 2610 Wolf Village Way, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. each night on Monday, November 7, Wednesday, November 9, Monday, November 14 and Wednesday, November 16, 2016. All four sessions are required to complete the class.

Compete in Pangea Race, a Globally-Themed Scavenger Hunt on NC State's Campus!

Friday, November 11, 2016 is the annual Pangea Race, a globally-themed scavenger hunt across NC State's campus coordinated by the Office of International Services. You must register by Wednesday November 9, 2016 to compete in the race. Each member of the winning team will receive a $25 Amazon gift card, and free pizza will be provided for all participants!

Keeping Study Abroad on the Table – Financial Aid for Underrepresented Students

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is making an active effort to make study abroad more accessible to underrepresented students, including first-generation college students, through the Travel Scholars Award program. This effort awards up to $2500 to H&SS students who are interested in credit-earning study abroad trips here at NC State. We want to reach the most diverse range of students possible to have access to this initiative, apply and to receive these awards.

The Interdisciplinary Studies unit is also hosting "Keeping Study Abroad on the Table" on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Caldwell Lounge for students to learn more about the award and going abroad. There will be free food, as well as students, faculty, and study abroad representatives who will talk about their experiences studying abroad.

Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) at NC State will be held November 14-20, 2016. GEW is the world's largest celebration of innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. The university has planned a variety of events that are open to the entire campus community.

Join Multicultural Student Affairs for Native American Heritage Month in November

Multicultural Student Affairs is proud to present a calendar of events for Native American Heritage Month. Events include lectures, discussions and workshops ranging from exploring issues surrounding the Dakota Access Pipeline to celebrating and learning about the Indigenous tribes of North Carolina. The signature event, "Culture Night" will take place on November 14, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Coastal Ballroom, Talley Student Union. The theme of this event is "Seven Generations," which refers to the traditional principle of revering, respecting and protecting the three generations before you and teaching and raising the three generations after you. This event is centered around hearing cultural perspectives from each of the seven generations through storytelling, dance, drumming and other Indigenous practices. We hope to see you at these events!

Applications Now Being Accepted for 2016-17 OIED Faculty Diversity Liaisons

We invite interested faculty to apply for the 2016-17 OIED Faculty Diversity Liaison Program. Faculty liaisons serve as an important resource in OIED’s efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming campus climate, enhance the university’s ability to recruit and retain diverse faculty, staff and students and support ongoing university efforts to increase the cultural competence of NC State students. To apply to serve as a 2016-17 faculty diversity liaison, please send a one-page proposal describing one or more initiatives and the mix of activities that you would like to pursue as an OIED faculty diversity liaison to Marcia Gumpertz. Faculty who participate in the program must have the support of their academic department head to participate.

Leadership Development: L.E.G.O. Week for Students November 7-11, 2016

Looking to explore your passion and leadership? Connect with the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service for L.E.G.O. Week (Leadership, Engagement, Growth and Opportunity). We will be in the lobby of Talley Student Union on Monday from 1:00-2:30 p.m., Tuesday from 9:30-11:00 a.m., Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., in Talley 3210 on Thursday from 5:30-6:30 p.m., and Talley 4111 on Friday from 5:00-6:30 p.m.

Be a Practice Interviewer at Third Annual "Prepare the Pack" Event on November 29

Prepare the Pack is a mock-interview day that will provide 20 second-year master’s students with the chance to practice their interviewing skills as they prepare to (re)enter the professional world. During this event, students will have 3 interview sessions based on general but realistic entry-level job descriptions. Each interview will conclude with the interviewers providing written and oral feedback to each student as well as a resume critique. Prior to the interviews, we will host a reception where students can practice their skills of networking with you, acting as potential employers. Prepare the Pack has proved to be a valuable and enjoyable experience for both students and volunteers! We hope you will consider serving as an interviewer for a functional area in which you have experience. Please volunteer by Monday, November 7, 2016.
